Zarina Irkaeva, cellist

Mrs. Irkaeva is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia, where she earned the degree Master of Music in Cello Performance in 1993. She also holds a Bachelor of Music in String Performance from the St. Petersburg College of Music and a Graduate Diploma with Honors from the St. Petersburg Special Music School for Gifted Children where she studied with Professors K. Kucherov, L. Shukaev, S. Uryvaev and N. Nurijanian.

 

As a member of the St. Petersburg "Classica" State Symphony Orchestra and chamber ensemble she has taken tours to Finland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, and Japan, and throughout the former Soviet Union.

 

Mrs. Irkaeva has won honors and awards in numerous competitions in Russia, including the National Competition of Student Orchestras (Moscow 1985), the Chamber Music Festival (St. Petersburg, 1992), the Baroque Festival (St. Petersburg, 1994). She was principal cellist of the St. Petersburg Youth Symphony Orchestra.

 

Since 1996 Mrs. Irkaeva has been performing in New England with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic, the Central Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, the New Bedford, Hingham, Nashua, and Newton Symphony Orchestras, the Derazey String Quartet, and the Nigun Chamber Ensemble and the Longy Chamber Orchestra. Orchestra.

 

She performs at the Festivals including the Greensborough Music Festival in Vermont, and Jewish Music Festival at Jordan Hall, Boston, 1998; in 1994 at the St. Petersburg Baroque Music Festival where she was the Russia Special Prize Winner, the 1993 Tchaikovsky Music Festival in Japan, the St. Petersburg Chamber Music Festival, Frankfurt Music Festivai, Germany

 

She was First Prize Winner (Principal Cello) of the National Competition of Student Orchestras, Moscow in 1984 and the Leningrad Young Soloists Festival Prize Winner

 

Zarina lives in Massachusetts and continues in her mother's grand tradition of teaching and performing great classics of the chamber music repertoire.
